How to structure your confession

This is the concluding part of our previous discussion on Getting your confessions to work for you, so I advise that if you have not read the previous article, you endeavour to do so by clicking on the link of the subject above. This will help you to gain a thorough understanding of the entire discussion.

Having understood the place and value of confessions in the believers walk of faith, it is important for us to now look carefully at how you can effectively structure your confessions to maximize results. We cannot over emphasize the need for a believer to maintain a strong and roburts confession, this is because even when the devil is throwing negative thoughts into your mind, your head will stop thinking to listen to what your mouth has to say, so you have to have to say something. This is where what you say becomes really important, and the best way to redirect your thoughts when they are going astray is to make confessions based on the scriptures.

The most vital point to note in structuring your confessions is that your confessions must contain elements of your sincere gratitude to God. If you are never grateful to God for anything he does in your life, you have no moral grounds on which to approach him to do more. Be grateful in your heart to God, and even to other people whom God has used to bring you thus far in your life’s journey, and beyond being grateful in your heart, let that gratitude reflect in your confessions. Don’t let your confessions flow out of selfishness and envy for what God has done for other people, let it rather rest on gratitude flowing out of your heart towards God.

Another thing to note in structuring your confessions is the importance of tying your confessions to past experiences of victory. I learnt from Pastor Poju Oyemade that when you make a confession, what happens is that your mind tries to tie that confession to an experience you have had in the past. This is as though your mind is doing a Google search for an experience related to what you are now confessing. If you have had a similar experience to what you are confessing, then it means your mind got a result from the search, and it becomes easy for your mind to relate that confession on your lips with that past experience of victory, to bring what you are confessing to pass. If however, you have never heard any experience similar to what you are confessing, then the search returns empty, and your heart cannot relate your confession to any previous experience of victory, in which case it is more difficult for that confession to settle in your heart to the point that you know you have possessed what you are confessing. To overcome this obstacle in your confession, you can always leverage on the experiences of other people that you know or that you can relate with. This is now like you are going beyond searching your own engine, to searching other people’s engine, seeking for results. Here is the vital role of the testimonies given by other believers; when you know that God has done it for Mr A, it is easier to believe that He will do it for you, and you can incorporate other people’s testimony into your confessions.

So then when you begin to make your confessions, it will do you a great profit to tie those confessions to past experiences of victory that you have had or that you can relate with in the lives of other people. Take for instance that you are believing God for healing over a certain ailment, you can simply structure your confession as thus;

I am grateful to God and I rejoice greatly that Jesus paid the price for me to live in divine health, for His word says in 1 Pet. 2:24 that Who his own self bare our sins in his own body on the tree, that we, being dead to sins, should live unto righteousness: by whose stripes ye were healed. I see myself free from this disease and I see myself dancing and praising God just as I did on the day I was delivered from that car accident…

What you will observe about this confession is that not only is it based on the word of God, it has elements of gratitude to God, and an emotional attachment. You have attached the confession to an important event in your life – the victory over a car accident, which is to you one of the past victories that you have enjoyed. Thus, it becomes easy for your heart to accept that confession and for faith to rise in your heart to produce the physical manifestation of your confession.

Now, supposing that as a single lady, you are believing God to get married, and you cannot find any past victory in your life to which you can tie your confessions to give it that emotional boost, you can then relate your confession to someone else’s experience as thus;

I am grateful to God and I rejoice greatly because now I have been found by a God fearing, handsome, industrious, loving, and caring man, who will take me to be his wife; for the word of God declares in Isa. 34:16 that none shall lack her mate. I see myself married and settled in my home with children, and I see myself dancing and praising God on my wedding day just as Sis. Jane did on the day she got married to Bro. Joe…

What you have done in essence by structuring your confession as illustrated, is to tap into the testimony that God has given to a fellow believer in order to birth your own testimony. These confessions are mere sample confessions, you can structure yours in any way, but the important thing is to ensure that your confessions are not lacking any essential elements that make up a good confession.

It is important that I remind you again as in the previous article that you don’t just make confessions as a Christian ritual, you must truly be desirous of the confessions that you are making. The interesting thing about desiring something strongly is that it is certain you will have it because your heart will latch on to it till it comes to pass. If your desirability level for something is take for instance 9, and the obstacle level is 8, your desire will propel you to overcome the obstacles on your way to attaining your desires. However, if your desirability level is 6, and the obstacle level is 8, you will have a very challenging and difficult climb.

Finally let’s look at a very important scripture in Heb. 10:23
Let us hold fast the profession of our faith without wavering; (for he is faithful that promised)

Many believers lack staying power, that ability to stay and hold on to your confessions until you get the results you want. Making confessions is like turning the rudder of a ship, the ship doesn't automatically change its course immediately the sailor starts turning the rudder, the sailor must first lock the rudder at a point for the ship to begin  to turn in that direction. The moral is that as you make your confessions, you may not necessarily experience results immediately, this does not in any way mean that your confessions aren't working, it only means you have to lock those confessions until you begin to get the results you want.

As you diligently make your well-structured confessions, backed up by prayers, you will see how easy it is to succeed in life because you will not even be consciously making the decisions that will cause you to succeed, your confessions and prayers have set a prophetic highway before you as you march into destiny.

I look forward to hearing from you on how this subject has helped you to further enjoy the victories delivered to you by the finished work of Christ Jesus as I welcome you to an adventure in faith.

Shalom!

Blessed By Association - Updated

Abraham by God’s calling had become a blessed man walking in the blessing. God appeared to him, changed his name and gave him the covenant of circumcision. You would have thought that all this will happen to just Abraham and his family, but not so, the blessing as we see it (Gen 17: 12-14) was also for as many as were with Abraham at that time. They came into the lineage of blessing simply by association with the man Abraham, they were to be circumcised just like Abraham, and came under the same covenant blessing. These people who were associated with Abraham at that time, including his household servants, enjoyed the most of the covenant that God Almighty gave to him. It therefore goes to show that there are associations in life that will forever set you up for the blessing. That is why you must treasure the relationships that God brings into your life, and never take them for granted.  In one of the piece published on this blog,  Identity by association , it was emphasized t...

Becoming a Person of Value

Over the years, I have come to realize that everyone likes to associate with people of value. It means that if you are someone who commands value, people will be drawn to you. If not, they will not. Now, suppose you find yourself always seeking to associate with others whom you consider valuable, but discover that not many people are eager to associate with you — this could simply mean that you are not yet commanding enough value. I use the words “not yet” intentionally, because I am mindful that we can all command great value if we take the right steps. Here are a few steps to help you truly become a person of value: 1. Have the Right Perspective The first step to becoming a person of value is to have the right perspective of who you are — who you are in Christ and the graces God has bestowed upon you. I do not think you can be of worth to yourself or to others if you do not first understand who you are in Christ. Remember, you are valuable in the sight of God, which is why He was wil...

Becoming a Person of Value - Part 2

In the first part of this series, I shared the first two steps to becoming a person of value: 1. Having the right perspective 2. Valuing people These are foundational principles for building true value. Today, I’ll share three additional steps that can help you on this journey. But remember—these steps only work when you internalize and practice them consistently. It’s not enough to know them; you must live them. 3. Value Knowledge and Learning The third step to becoming a person of value is to develop an insatiable hunger for knowledge. Be a lifelong learner, and to do that, you must remain humble. No matter how knowledgeable you are, there is always something to learn—even from those who may know less than you in other areas. As a Christian, growing in the knowledge of God is essential. It will strengthen your foundation in times of trials and storms. Keep pressing toward deeper understanding of Him (Philippians 3:13-14). The pursuit of God is the most noble quest of all. However...
