Faith and Trust

Psalm 25:2 (KJV)
O my God, I trust in thee: let me not be ashamed, let not mine enemies triumph over me

Matt. 27:43 (KJV)
He trusted in God; let him deliver him now, if he will have him: for he said, I am the Son of God.

As we continue our discussion on this crucial subject of faith, we must now look at another key factor of faith. Remember that we had previously discussed on Faith and the will of God, where we established clearly that faith begins where the will of God is known. If you haven’t read that piece it will greatly benefit you to do so, click here to read it now.

In that discuss, we brought out the fact that if you keep attempting to exercise faith without first finding out the will of God concerning issues, then you will fall flat on your face many times. We established that the more this happens, the weaker your faith will grow, because your ability to trust God to keep His words will keep on decreasing. This is where trust becomes an essential factor in the conversation, because you can only have faith in someone you trust. In any business dealing or transaction, trust is a major factor, if you don’t trust someone, you wouldn’t transact with them. You may have reason to deal with a dishonest person in business, if you already know that such a person is dishonest, you simply trust them to be dishonest with you also – this is also a form of trust.

Trust has to do with a person’s character, and the way you determine if someone is trustworthy or not is by dealing with them or getting information from others who have dealt with them. You may trust someone intuitively, but until you deal with them, you can’t tell for sure if they are trustworthy or not. Also it is only after you have determined that the person is trustworthy that you can have faith in the person’s words. Now I am sure you get how all of these fits together, you cannot have faith in God more than you trust Him. If you feel like God has let you down severally, it will be hard to count on His words and have faith in Him, and unfortunately this is the place where many believers are. This is perhaps one of the greatest cause of the lack of faith in the life of many Christians – they seem not to trust God enough to put their faith in Him.

Our goal is not to dig into various reasons why you may find it hard to trust God, which in turn paralysis your faith; whatever the reasons for your distrust of God, the bottom line is that it will have devastating effect on your faith, and unless you do something to get out of that place and start holding God in high trust, you faith will never work. I know you may not come out boldly to say you don’t trust God; you are a believer who has been in church for some time now, how can it ever be heard that you don’t hold God in high trust. But that may be your true state and you need help quickly as your lack of trust in God is evident in your impotent faith.

The Psalmist said in our text, O my God, I trust in thee. It will do you good to make that your confession every of your waking moment, until it becomes your true experience. You will also benefit a lot from studying the Bible, particularly scriptures that show how God came through for others in times of dare need, knowing that He will come through for you also in your time of need. I know some of you reading this may be at an all-time low in your walk with God, and you may have lost interest in the scriptures and fellowshipping with God, but you have to get back to spending time with God and fellowshipping with the word of God. It is the only way out, and the devil will do all he can to keep you away from the word, but you can get back right away.

Remember when Jesus hung on that cross for our sins, He did it for love, but only by trusting God to raise Him from death could He go through that suffering. He trusted God with His life and the outcome is victory over sin, hell, and the grave. Yes! He got it, His faith triumphed because He trusted God to fulfill His word by raising Him up from death. If Jesus didn’t have faith in God to raise Him up because He didn’t trust God to always keep His words, then I dare say that He would never have gone to the cross, and man could have been lost forever, but praise God the story is different.

As you learn to love God and trust Him, your capacity for faith will get so developed to the point where you will begin to exercise faith unconsciously and the results of faith in your life will be unprecedented.

Find Your Place and Stay There

Like a bird that wanders from its nest is a man who wanders from his place. Prov.27:8 (NIV) One of the greatest advantages you can have in life is to find your place early and stay there. The challenges of life come to us all, but you may just find it so overwhelming when you are not in your place, as compared to the person who has found their place. I am sure that you have come across one or two persons in life who excel and have an utter sense of fulfilment in what they do in life. It doesn’t have to be really big sometimes, but you can tell that they are in their place, where they should actually be. You may also have come across some persons whom you will consider clear misfits where they are, and in what they do. The latter set of people are most likely not to be prospering as they should, or I should say, they have potential to prosper more, if they find their place and stay there. The same is true about your life. Sometimes you need to take a step back and ask yourself if you ar...

Two Things to Avoid to be Prosperous

He also that is slothful in his work is brother to him that is a great waster. Prov.18:9 (KJV) In my last piece, I talked about the importance of finding your place, and staying there to command God’s Blessing. I emphasized the importance of staying power in whatever God has called you to do or committed to your hands. In this piece, I will seek to drive the conversation further, talking about two wrong attitudes that will greatly hinder the Blessing of God from finding expression in your life. Our text says the slothful is brother to a great waster, this is a very dangerous company indeed, and always a disaster waiting to happen. These two characters can never prosper and attain God’s highest Blessing. You may be working hard and making mistakes, but you must keep at it because, the man who tries and make mistakes will command the Blessing far more than the man who is slothful. God hates laziness! Laziness can disguise in many ways; a person can be spiritually lazy, and that...

Updated: Don’t Bind the Brook, Don’t Rebuke the Ravens - Simple Lesson in Obedience

Over the years I have come to understand the place of simple obedience to the instructions of God, and the huge difference it could make in one’s life. I have also come to see how easy believers can be in disobedience, yet be able to cover up with some form of spiritual activity, then in the end attempt to pass on the responsibility for their failures on God.   This can possibly account for one of the biggest reasons why there are believers who seem not to be making progress in life in spite of their seeming spirituality. The situation is even more compounded when older believers who should set the example for younger believers fall into this group. The implication is that there will be a generation of young believers who cannot seem to find the proper alignment between the Christian faith and being productive in life.   The story of the prophet Elijah in 1 Kings 17, clearly illustrates my point.  The Word of the Lord had come to the prophet to camp by the bro...
