Why isn't it working? Part I

This question certainly ranks high on the frequently asked questions list of many believers, particularly when they seem not to be getting positive results in life after putting to work all the principles of faith and prayers that they have learnt. Well, the challenges of life come to us all, and if you have lived long enough as a believer, then you must have caught yourself asking this question either to yourself or to someone you think is in a position to help you strengthen things out. There could be several reasons why things may not be working as expected, and I should say at this point that I certainly do not have all the answers, but I hope to share with you a few things which I have also learnt and I trust that it will profit you.

The steps that I will share in this series are well outlined in the book – What to do when Faith seems weak & victory lost by Kenneth E. Hagin, so you may as well get the book and read to gain more insight. I hope to take the steps in part because we cannot possibly take them all in one writing. I will take them in the order presented in the book, and I believe with you that as you take heed to these steps, things will begin to work positively in your life.

Step 1. Recognize the source of the opposition as being Satan and stand your ground.
This may look simple, but it is amazing how many people still get to miss it. Settle first in your heart that God isn’t against you, and God will not bring any evil upon you just to teach you a lesson; God will not tempt anyone with evil. You may be thinking that God is punishing you for your past mistakes, but no, He isn’t. Once God has forgiven, He doesn’t remember again and He is not angry with you. As a believer you have become an object of His love, and all He desires for you is good and not evil. When things are not working, look in the right direction to see who is responsible and the scripture has pointed it out already in John 10:10 The thief cometh not, but to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly. This also means that you are not focusing your attention on other people as being the opposition, remember that the devil is the arch-enemy of the believer, and he can use anyone who makes themselves available to him to be used. So, it is important that you take a stand against every opposition of Satan, and manipulations using human agents against your life and destiny.

Having done that, just keep standing as the scripture says…having done all, to stand, stand therefore…Eph.6:13-14. Hear what Kenneth E. Hagin had to say about this point “You need to realize this: many times, particularly in the old testament, when it talks about God doing something, He did not actually perform it. In other words, He was not the agent who did it. He did not send evil on anyone. God already had warned them, “if you sin, these things will happen to you.”” He further gave an example to illustrate better this point; “Suppose for instance, a man climbs up on the house, then falls off and breaks his leg. God put into motion the law of gravity. But the man could not say, “God broke my leg,” or, “God pushed me off the roof,” or even, “God did it.” No. God put into motion the law of gravity, the man violated it, and reaped the results.” I remember again hearing Kenneth Copeland making emphasis on the fact that the old testament translators translated the permissive tenses of the old Hebrew writings using causative tenses because the original Hebrew in which the old testament was written did not have permissive tense. Always remember, God is not responsible for evil, the devil is, and you can stand against him.

Step 2. Be sure the promises of God – the scriptures – cover the things you ask for and are believing for.
Like we always say in faith circles, faith begins where the will of God is known. In other words, if you weren’t sure that what you desired is covered by the scriptures then your faith cannot be effective. Kenneth E. Hagin said, “You have a right to believe for anything God’s word promised you. But if you get out beyond that, then you are out on presumption or foolishness.” Bible faith is based on God’s word and nothing more, and it comes by hearing the word of God. The moment you get out beyond the word of God, you have no basis for faith and that could mean trouble for you. Don’t live your life or exercise your faith based on presumption; don’t presume that what you are desiring is covered in scriptures, rather search the scriptures till you find it, then you can hold it up to God in prayer and expect that your faith will produce, and you will get that which you have desired.

This is how much we can take in this first part, we will continue from step 3 in our next piece and I do hope that you will digest these two steps and begin to put them to work ahead of the remaining other steps which we will share.

Shalom!

Find Your Place and Stay There

Like a bird that wanders from its nest is a man who wanders from his place. Prov.27:8 (NIV) One of the greatest advantages you can have in life is to find your place early and stay there. The challenges of life come to us all, but you may just find it so overwhelming when you are not in your place, as compared to the person who has found their place. I am sure that you have come across one or two persons in life who excel and have an utter sense of fulfilment in what they do in life. It doesn’t have to be really big sometimes, but you can tell that they are in their place, where they should actually be. You may also have come across some persons whom you will consider clear misfits where they are, and in what they do. The latter set of people are most likely not to be prospering as they should, or I should say, they have potential to prosper more, if they find their place and stay there. The same is true about your life. Sometimes you need to take a step back and ask yourself if you ar...

Two Things to Avoid to be Prosperous

He also that is slothful in his work is brother to him that is a great waster. Prov.18:9 (KJV) In my last piece, I talked about the importance of finding your place, and staying there to command God’s Blessing. I emphasized the importance of staying power in whatever God has called you to do or committed to your hands. In this piece, I will seek to drive the conversation further, talking about two wrong attitudes that will greatly hinder the Blessing of God from finding expression in your life. Our text says the slothful is brother to a great waster, this is a very dangerous company indeed, and always a disaster waiting to happen. These two characters can never prosper and attain God’s highest Blessing. You may be working hard and making mistakes, but you must keep at it because, the man who tries and make mistakes will command the Blessing far more than the man who is slothful. God hates laziness! Laziness can disguise in many ways; a person can be spiritually lazy, and that...

Updated: Don’t Bind the Brook, Don’t Rebuke the Ravens - Simple Lesson in Obedience

Over the years I have come to understand the place of simple obedience to the instructions of God, and the huge difference it could make in one’s life. I have also come to see how easy believers can be in disobedience, yet be able to cover up with some form of spiritual activity, then in the end attempt to pass on the responsibility for their failures on God.   This can possibly account for one of the biggest reasons why there are believers who seem not to be making progress in life in spite of their seeming spirituality. The situation is even more compounded when older believers who should set the example for younger believers fall into this group. The implication is that there will be a generation of young believers who cannot seem to find the proper alignment between the Christian faith and being productive in life.   The story of the prophet Elijah in 1 Kings 17, clearly illustrates my point.  The Word of the Lord had come to the prophet to camp by the bro...
