Rich in Good Works

It was the Apostle Paul who instructed Timothy to charge the congregation that he was overseeing to be not high minded nor trust in uncertain riches, but in the living God who gives us richly all things to enjoy. That they do good, be rich in good works, ready to distribute, willing to communicate. Our emphasis for this short piece will however be on the verse 18 of 1 Timothy 6.

One would have naturally expected that since these people were already believers, they knew these things and were equally practicing them. You see, sometimes believers run after the seeming big things of faith and doctrine and neglect some of the basic instructions of scriptures. Interestingly, it is actually some of these basics that complete your faith.

In Acts of Apostles chapter 10, we read of the story of certain centurion name Cornelius. He was rich in good works but he had no salvation, an angel of the Lord had to appear to him to get Peter who would show him the way of salvation. Likewise, in Acts of Apostles chapter 9, we also read of a certain disciple named Tabitha. The scripture described her as being full of good works. She eventually fell sick and passed on, but the other disciples sent to get Peter to come pray for her and raise her from death. It does appear to me that these other disciples so much benefited from her that they couldn’t bear to see her pass on just like that.

My point here is that God expects us as people of faith to be rich in good works. In fact, the Apostle Paul in his letter to the Galatians, chapter 6, verse 10, charged that as we have the opportunity, let us do good to all men, especially to fellow believers. Don’t just let your life and your faith be about you and yourself, rather, look to others and be generous towards them. Some people get so wrapped up by their own needs that they would not even observe that what they have in their hands that means little or nothing to them can mean an absolute breakthrough for someone else.

I encourage you today, not just to focus on yourself alone, but also on how you can help others and how you can be a blessing to the people that God has placed around you. This is a higher pedestal of living and you never know what is in the waiting for you as you begin to do this. Don’t wait till you have so much, and don’t say when God blesses me, I will do this and that. Yes, that is good, but you should do something with the little there is today on your journey to much more.

Always remember the charge – Be Rich in Good Works.

Stretch

Isa. 54:2 “Enlarge the place of your tent, And let them stretch out the curtains of your dwellings; Do not spare; Lengthen your cords, And strengthen your stakes. The concept of stretching is very important for anyone who desires to make any meaningful progress in life. God has so designed everything in a manner that makes it almost impossible to make progress without any stretch. Even the human body grows by this same concept. It has been revealed that for a muscle to grow, it must first undergo "micro-tears." When you lift a weight that is slightly too heavy, the muscle fiber stretches and tears. It is only in the repair of those tears that the muscle becomes larger and stronger than before. If there is no tension, there is no transformation. The "pain" of the stretch is actually the signal that growth is happening. So If the human body grows by stretching, it follows to say that to reach anything significant in this life, we must stretch. God will always require ...

Becoming a Person of Value - Part 2

In the first part of this series, I shared the first two steps to becoming a person of value: 1. Having the right perspective 2. Valuing people These are foundational principles for building true value. Today, I’ll share three additional steps that can help you on this journey. But remember—these steps only work when you internalize and practice them consistently. It’s not enough to know them; you must live them. 3. Value Knowledge and Learning The third step to becoming a person of value is to develop an insatiable hunger for knowledge. Be a lifelong learner, and to do that, you must remain humble. No matter how knowledgeable you are, there is always something to learn—even from those who may know less than you in other areas. As a Christian, growing in the knowledge of God is essential. It will strengthen your foundation in times of trials and storms. Keep pressing toward deeper understanding of Him (Philippians 3:13-14). The pursuit of God is the most noble quest of all. However...
