Don't cut down God's Anointed

There is a common trend which is observable in our day, and some believers are also caught in the web of this trend, particularly with the overwhelming influence of social media. It is the constant attempt at cutting down other people, particularly ministers of the gospel. My focus on this piece is on cutting down God's anointed. It may appear as though you are doing the right thing in joining others to name and shame God’s anointed for whatever reason, but bear in mind that such actions are not without their own consequences.

In the Bible book of 1 Samuel, we read of Israel’s first King, Saul. He was anointed to lead Israel at a time when they clamoured for a king, however, soon after he was enthroned king, God rejected him for his disobedience. God then sent to anoint David as king over His people. Saul became David’s enemy and sought to kill him. In 1 Samuel 19:1, Saul expressly gave instruction to Jonathan his son and all his servants to kill David. This is how low King Saul had fallen from grace; a man anointed king by God, now seeking to kill another of God’s chosen servant. He made several attempts to kill David, but God indeed was with David and kept him from the sword of King Saul.

What was David’s response to King Saul? Now, this is where it becomes interesting; David had his own opportunity to kill the king, and not just on one occasion, but he spared him. David’s men pressured him to slay King Saul when he had the opportunity to do so, and they even quoted the scriptures to say that God had finally delivered David’s enemy into his hands, but David would not bow to the temptation to cut down God’s anointed. In fact scriptures record that on one such occasion of the opportunity David had to kill the king that he did not take, he actually cut off a small portion of the king’s robe to show the king how close he was to killing him, but even that action was regrettable to David. For him, it was going too far to cut off a small portion of the “once anointed” king’s rope.

To David it didn’t matter that God had rejected King Saul, what mattered was that King Saul was once anointed by God. What a man filled with God’s love! Little wonder he was reckoned as a man after God’s heart. He would not under any circumstances cut down the anointed of God, and when one brought him news of King Saul’s death thinking he was bringing David some good news, David ordered for the man to be killed for claiming to be responsible for the King’s death. In the least, you would expect that David should be happy that his enemy and obstacle to the throne of Israel was gone, but no, not David, he stripped off his clothes and mourned God’s anointed, no wonder he was marvellously helped and lifted by God.

Today, we have people who are so desirous of God’s lifting, they cry out to Him day and night that He would just lift them, yet they are the same people who are constantly hacking down the anointed of God at every opportunity. Such actions can be a great undoing for any believer, and in fact cut off the flow of the Blessing in one’s life.

You may say shouldn’t we shame men of God that do wrong? Well, may be it is not in your place to do so, who are you to judge another man’s servant.

I have personally observed a couple of people who seem to be intelligent and promising, but love cutting down God’s anointed. As I have watched them over the years, I have noticed that their lives remain practically stagnant. Don’t join the band wagon of cutting down other people, rather, stay in your place and let God lift you. Conduct yourself wisely like David, and if you have been cutting down God’s anointed, you must stop it henceforth. As you yield to these things, you are yielding to love, and you will begin to experience a flow of the Blessing of God in your life like never before.

Find Your Place and Stay There

Like a bird that wanders from its nest is a man who wanders from his place. Prov.27:8 (NIV) One of the greatest advantages you can have in life is to find your place early and stay there. The challenges of life come to us all, but you may just find it so overwhelming when you are not in your place, as compared to the person who has found their place. I am sure that you have come across one or two persons in life who excel and have an utter sense of fulfilment in what they do in life. It doesn’t have to be really big sometimes, but you can tell that they are in their place, where they should actually be. You may also have come across some persons whom you will consider clear misfits where they are, and in what they do. The latter set of people are most likely not to be prospering as they should, or I should say, they have potential to prosper more, if they find their place and stay there. The same is true about your life. Sometimes you need to take a step back and ask yourself if you ar...

Two Things to Avoid to be Prosperous

He also that is slothful in his work is brother to him that is a great waster. Prov.18:9 (KJV) In my last piece, I talked about the importance of finding your place, and staying there to command God’s Blessing. I emphasized the importance of staying power in whatever God has called you to do or committed to your hands. In this piece, I will seek to drive the conversation further, talking about two wrong attitudes that will greatly hinder the Blessing of God from finding expression in your life. Our text says the slothful is brother to a great waster, this is a very dangerous company indeed, and always a disaster waiting to happen. These two characters can never prosper and attain God’s highest Blessing. You may be working hard and making mistakes, but you must keep at it because, the man who tries and make mistakes will command the Blessing far more than the man who is slothful. God hates laziness! Laziness can disguise in many ways; a person can be spiritually lazy, and that...

Updated: Don’t Bind the Brook, Don’t Rebuke the Ravens - Simple Lesson in Obedience

Over the years I have come to understand the place of simple obedience to the instructions of God, and the huge difference it could make in one’s life. I have also come to see how easy believers can be in disobedience, yet be able to cover up with some form of spiritual activity, then in the end attempt to pass on the responsibility for their failures on God.   This can possibly account for one of the biggest reasons why there are believers who seem not to be making progress in life in spite of their seeming spirituality. The situation is even more compounded when older believers who should set the example for younger believers fall into this group. The implication is that there will be a generation of young believers who cannot seem to find the proper alignment between the Christian faith and being productive in life.   The story of the prophet Elijah in 1 Kings 17, clearly illustrates my point.  The Word of the Lord had come to the prophet to camp by the bro...
