Dream Again

Gen. 37:9 Then Joseph had another dream, and he told his brothers about it. He said, “I had another dream. I saw the sun, the moon, and eleven stars bowing down to me.” (ERV)

Usually, everyone grows up with a dream; big or small, and at certain points in our lives, we tend to be believe that our dreams are realizable. But sometime it so happens that as you grow up and interact with the world system, you may begin to see that your dreams may just stay at the level of dreams after all and not necessarily be realized.

Well, it seems like that was the exact story of Joseph the son of Jacob as a young man with great dreams. He told his dream to his brothers who were older than him, and probably understood how the world works better than he did, but rather than encouraging Joseph, they mocked him. If they had only mocked him, then it may have felt even better for him, but they did not stop at mocking him only, they also hated him for daring to have such a big dream. However, all the discouragement and hatred did not stop Joseph, rather he was propelled to dream even bigger and better than his previous dream. The fact that you had a dream in the past that hasn’t yet come to pass is not a reason not to dream another, and the fact that you have a dream like Joseph, and the people around you, especially those close to you don’t seem to like your dream or be supportive of it is not a reason to abandon your dream.

Joseph then went from a big dream to becoming a slave – someone else’s property! What kind of dream could a slave possibly have? He had every reason at this point to be discouraged, and to give up on himself, and on God who gave him the dream. He spent a number of year as a slave, and then in prison as a slave-prisoner, but he kept his dream alive. That you had a big dream yesterday does not mean that you will step into the fulfilment today, you may still have to go through various stages, and processing, by which God prepares you for actualization of your dream.

One crucial thing to bear in mind is that on the path to realizing your big dream, you will have the opportunity to prove your worth in small things. Joseph had the opportunity to serve as chief servant over Potiphar’s house, and he did well to the admiration of everyone. When he got into prison, rather than being moody all day out of discouragement, he chose rather to be diligent to the admiration of the prison officials and other fellow prisoners. You may have gone through so much or be going through now as you read, but understand that you ultimately have the power to stop yourself if you choose to be bitter about life and your experiences. Take the right path instead and be encouraged like Joseph to keep your dreams alive.

Finally, you may not even yet see the possibility of how your dreams will ever come to pass just like Joseph when he landed in prison, but just keep it going a step at a time. Don’t stop looking to God at any point. Joseph got into the trap of trying to lobby the King’s servant to remember him after he interpreted the dream in his favour, but the man still forgot Joseph. It is important not to try to look to a man, but to keep you focus on God. God Himself will step in to lift you up, and bring you into the fullness of your dreams as you remain committed and diligent in going through the process of the fulfilment of your dream. He will create the opportunity for you to manifest in the fullness of time, and at that time you will be mentally, physically, and spiritually matured to manage the glory that the fulfilment of your dreams will bring.

Shalom!

Updated: Don’t Bind the Brook, Don’t Rebuke the Ravens - Simple Lesson in Obedience

Over the years I have come to understand the place of simple obedience to the instructions of God, and the huge difference it could make in one’s life. I have also come to see how easy believers can be in disobedience, yet be able to cover up with some form of spiritual activity, then in the end attempt to pass on the responsibility for their failures on God.   This can possibly account for one of the biggest reasons why there are believers who seem not to be making progress in life in spite of their seeming spirituality. The situation is even more compounded when older believers who should set the example for younger believers fall into this group. The implication is that there will be a generation of young believers who cannot seem to find the proper alignment between the Christian faith and being productive in life.   The story of the prophet Elijah in 1 Kings 17, clearly illustrates my point.  The Word of the Lord had come to the prophet to camp by the bro...

Blessed By Association - Updated

Abraham by God’s calling had become a blessed man walking in the blessing. God appeared to him, changed his name and gave him the covenant of circumcision. You would have thought that all this will happen to just Abraham and his family, but not so, the blessing as we see it (Gen 17: 12-14) was also for as many as were with Abraham at that time. They came into the lineage of blessing simply by association with the man Abraham, they were to be circumcised just like Abraham, and came under the same covenant blessing. These people who were associated with Abraham at that time, including his household servants, enjoyed the most of the covenant that God Almighty gave to him. It therefore goes to show that there are associations in life that will forever set you up for the blessing. That is why you must treasure the relationships that God brings into your life, and never take them for granted.  In one of the piece published on this blog,  Identity by association , it was emphasized t...

Doubt or Offence

Now, while John the Baptizer was in prison, he heard about the wonderful deeds of the Christ, so he sent his disciples to ask him this question: “Are you really the one the prophets said would come, or should we still wait for another?”. Matt.11:2-3 (TPT) When you read the text of the scripture above, it may appear like John was now in doubt of the same person he announced to the world. But that really was not the case, John was not in doubt of the messianic ministry of Jesus, rather he had taken offence. Offence can be a very terrible thing, because it puts a big wedge between you and God, such that you become isolated from Him. Many times, offence comes so subtly that even the person affected may not know that offence has crept in, until it begins to manifest in many dangerous ways. Usually, offence creeps in through unmet expectations, and at other times it can simply be as a result of false entitlement mentality. In our text, John had been imprisoned, and right there in priso...
