Many who desire to operate consistently in the miraculous have continued to press in consciously into the power of God. Some have seen the power at work consistently, while there are many others who haven’t experienced the power of God at work as much as they would have desired.
If you are in the latter place, you need to step back a little and evaluate again if you have everything right or possibly you are missing something important. From my study of the word of God and experience, often what is lacking is deep compassion.
The greatest men that have been mightily used of God to touch people’s lives have been men of deep compassion. Jesus was a man of deepest compassion, and the power of God flowed naturally through Him. One of the stories that points out the compassion of Jesus, and the lack of same by His disciples is the story of how Jesus fed the multitude in Mark’s gospel.
Mark 6:34-44 When Jesus landed and saw a large crowd, he had compassion on them, because they were like sheep without a shepherd. So he began teaching them many things.
By this time it was late in the day, so his disciples came to him. “This is a remote place,” they said, “and it’s already very late. Send the people away so that they can go to the surrounding countryside and villages and buy themselves something to eat.”
But he answered, “You give them something to eat.”
They said to him, “That would take more than half a year’s wages! Are we to go and spend that much on bread and give it to them to eat?”
“How many loaves do you have?” he asked. “Go and see.”
When they found out, they said, “Five—and two fish.”
Then Jesus directed them to have all the people sit down in groups on the green grass. So they sat down in groups of hundreds and fifties. Taking the five loaves and the two fish and looking up to heaven, he gave thanks and broke the loaves. Then he gave them to his disciples to distribute to the people. He also divided the two fish among them all. They all ate and were satisfied, and the disciples picked up twelve basketfuls of broken pieces of bread and fish. The number of the men who had eaten was five thousand. (NIV)
Faith could not have fed 5000 men besides women and children except through deep love and compassion. The disciples lacked a critical element that propels faith – compassion. As you study the story carefully, you will find two things that showed that the disciples lacked compassion and how Jesus clearly stood out.
In the first instance, they did not think the people were deserving to be fed at all, after all the people came to the meeting on their own volition.
By this time it was late in the day, so his disciples came to him. “This is a remote place,” they said, “and it’s already very late. Send the people away so that they can go to the surrounding countryside and villages and buy themselves something to eat.”
This attitude alone by the disciples would have been sufficient to limit their faith and stop the flow of the miraculous. Many times, miracles are not birthed or the flow of God’s power through us is limited because we do not consider others to be deserving of our goodness. Even if God endowed you with power, and you have this attitude that doesn’t consider others as deserving, that power will amount to nothing and you will struggle to manifest the miraculous.
In the second place, the disciples must have thought if at all the people deserved to be fed, then they probably did not deserve to be fed with that much worth of money; the thinking was why spend a year’s wage to feed this multitude?
But he answered, “You give them something to eat.”
They said to him, “That would take more than half a year’s wages! Are we to go and spend that much on bread and give it to them to eat?”
For Jesus, the people were worth whatever it would take to have them fed; compassion flowed, and a miracle was birthed. If things are worth more to you than people, you may as well forget operating in the miraculous, it will not happen, no matter how much you fast and pray.
Jesus clearly demonstrated to us what the essence of manifesting God’s power is; it is to serve and lift others. In the temptation of Jesus, He refused to turn stones to bread to serve a selfish purpose, but when it came to multiplying bread for the multitude, He did not hold back.
I encourage you to do a proper introspection. Your desire to manifest the miraculous, your desire for healing power, your desire for prosperity, your desire for influence is all tied to how willing you are to serve others and not self. I pray that God will help you see this truth and launch you into another level of manifestation in all areas of your life as you have desired.
Shalom!
This is really inspiring. Our desire for the miraculous is all tied to how willing we are to serve others not self. God bless you my brother. More grace to do greater exploits.
