Be Flexible

Many times, you step into a new year all geared up for action. The motivation for success is usually at an all-time high, but as you get along, you may face challenges to various degrees, and these challenges have the potential to slow you down.

When this happens, some people simply throw in the towel and give up, some others completely lower their expectations, with the thinking that they wouldn’t feel so disappointed at the end if they had no serious expectation to begin with. There are also a few people who will hold on tenaciously to achieving their goals, and by the help of God and some adaptability, they will do so.

You see when God speaks to you about something you should do, or even when you set a goal for yourself under the direction of the Holy Spirit, there are many processes that needs to take place for that goal to be achieved. The challenge for you may be that while you have thought of the end goal, you may not have given so much thought to the processes that must be initiated and run through, for that goal to be achieved.

Obedience means you are sticking with the goals that have been birthed in your heart, and you are stepping out to see the fulfillment. It means you are taking the necessary and sufficient actions to trigger the processes that are involved to bring your desired goals into manifestation; for you cannot desire something and simply do nothing to make it happen. It also means that you are focused, and not carried away or distracted by all the things happening around you. More importantly, you are not distracted by the things happening in the lives of others close to you or whom you look up to. You see, you can get so distracted by the things happening in the lives of others to the point where you abandon the good dreams in your own heart, and begin to pursue the leanness of what you see others succeeding at. The unfortunate part is that even if you succeed at this also, it may not give you any sense of fulfilment.

Perhaps, the most crucial part of this piece is the ability to be flexible. Like I mentioned earlier, there are several processes that may need to run for a singular goal to be achieved. You must be flexible to change style or adapt a different process in an attempt to realize your goals. Don’t be too rigid, be flexible in your thinking, and malleable in God’s hands. God has countless number of processes by which He can trigger a single event, if you limit Him to only one, and He chooses to use another, you may just have limited yourself, and denied yourself the opportunity to experience His multifaceted wisdom.

God has many styles by which He can achieve same result, but one thing is certain, you cannot dictate to Him, you can only flow with Him. Naaman, the Syrian army general in II Kings 5, left the prophet angrily, because God chose to heal him in a manner different from what he had expected. Thank God he came to himself and followed the instruction of the prophet, he would never have been healed.

Today, I encourage you not to be rigid, but to be flexible in your mind. Some amount of time may be gone already, but there is still enough time for God to do wonders in your life and through you. God can use any method and anyone He chooses, to bring those goals to pass in your life. He is not limited by the limitations of men, and nothing is beyond His reach. Open yourself up to Him, show Him your willingness to obey Him and to be flexible, by His grace and favour, He will bring to pass the deepest desires of your heart.

Shalom!

  3. So apt, His ways are not our ways ag all. May His plans and purposes for us be constantly revealed to us, and may we align with them all willingly so that we would be able to flow with Him and do His bidding at all time!

    Thank you for the reminder

Find Your Place and Stay There

Like a bird that wanders from its nest is a man who wanders from his place. Prov.27:8 (NIV) One of the greatest advantages you can have in life is to find your place early and stay there. The challenges of life come to us all, but you may just find it so overwhelming when you are not in your place, as compared to the person who has found their place. I am sure that you have come across one or two persons in life who excel and have an utter sense of fulfilment in what they do in life. It doesn’t have to be really big sometimes, but you can tell that they are in their place, where they should actually be. You may also have come across some persons whom you will consider clear misfits where they are, and in what they do. The latter set of people are most likely not to be prospering as they should, or I should say, they have potential to prosper more, if they find their place and stay there. The same is true about your life. Sometimes you need to take a step back and ask yourself if you ar...

Two Things to Avoid to be Prosperous

He also that is slothful in his work is brother to him that is a great waster. Prov.18:9 (KJV) In my last piece, I talked about the importance of finding your place, and staying there to command God’s Blessing. I emphasized the importance of staying power in whatever God has called you to do or committed to your hands. In this piece, I will seek to drive the conversation further, talking about two wrong attitudes that will greatly hinder the Blessing of God from finding expression in your life. Our text says the slothful is brother to a great waster, this is a very dangerous company indeed, and always a disaster waiting to happen. These two characters can never prosper and attain God’s highest Blessing. You may be working hard and making mistakes, but you must keep at it because, the man who tries and make mistakes will command the Blessing far more than the man who is slothful. God hates laziness! Laziness can disguise in many ways; a person can be spiritually lazy, and that...

Updated: Don’t Bind the Brook, Don’t Rebuke the Ravens - Simple Lesson in Obedience

Over the years I have come to understand the place of simple obedience to the instructions of God, and the huge difference it could make in one’s life. I have also come to see how easy believers can be in disobedience, yet be able to cover up with some form of spiritual activity, then in the end attempt to pass on the responsibility for their failures on God.   This can possibly account for one of the biggest reasons why there are believers who seem not to be making progress in life in spite of their seeming spirituality. The situation is even more compounded when older believers who should set the example for younger believers fall into this group. The implication is that there will be a generation of young believers who cannot seem to find the proper alignment between the Christian faith and being productive in life.   The story of the prophet Elijah in 1 Kings 17, clearly illustrates my point.  The Word of the Lord had come to the prophet to camp by the bro...
