As you study the popular faith chapter of the Bible, Heb.11, something will jump at you from verse 14-16.
For they that say such things declare plainly that they seek a country.
And truly, if they had been mindful of that country from whence they came out, they might have had opportunity to have returned.
But now they desire a better country, that is, an heavenly: wherefore God is not ashamed to be called their God: for he hath prepared for them a city.
This is talking about the men and women of faith mentioned in this chapter. One of their distinguishing characteristics of faith was that they were not mindful of the “country” from which they came. Does this really mean just an earthly country like you have Nigeria or China? Yes, possibly, but in another sense, the country here can be used to describe their situation or circumstance. These men and women of faith were not mindful of their situation or circumstances, they were rather seeking another “country”. What was this new “country” they were seeking? They were looking forward to the fulfilment of the promise of God!
You see, faith does not invalidate your current experiences, but it puts you in a place where you are not looking at those things, rather you are looking up to another “country”, in this case to the promises of God.
Often, when faith is taught, people think that they have to labour hard to believe. They think they have to deny and dissociate themselves from their current situation or experiences to be in faith. No, a thousand times no. That is not how it works, faith is not denying where you are, it is acknowledging and looking forward to the materialization of the promises of God for you.
It means that you may be sick in your body today, but you are not mindful of that sick country where you are, you are looking up to the heavenly country, where sickness does not dwell – you are hanging on to the promises of God over your healing. You may be broke and out, but you are not mindful of that broke country, rather you are seeking a heavenly country, the place of prosperity and abundance.
When you come to this place of looking forward to another country, regardless of your current country, the scripture reckons that you have come to the place where God is not ashamed to be called your God. You are pleasing the Father, because you are in faith.
Take this precious words and work with them, and you will turn around any negative situation and experience of life.
Shalom!
