Get in the Way!

And he said, Blessed be the Lord God of my master Abraham, who hath not left destitute my master of his mercy and his truth: I being in the way, the Lord led me to the house of my master's brethren. Gen.24:27 (KJV)

One of the greatest enemies of progress and indeed of success is waiting for all necessary and sufficient conditions to be right before you get started pursuing your dreams or the desires that God has put inside of you. This is not as though the conditions cannot fully align, but many times they do not, and they don’t have to for you to succeed.

People talk of how much they can do or achieve if only the conditions are right, like if they had more resources, more time, more connections, more help, more money, and so on, but it almost never works like that. When you have more money, you will realize there is still something else missing that is stopping you, when you have more connections, you will realize that you don’t have time and so on.

The challenge with such thinking is that it has the power to keep you in that loop of stagnation for as long as you allow it, and this can be for many years. This is a key reason why many people never make progress or achieve their dreams, they are waiting to start when the conditions are right.

Many others don’t want to get in the way because they are afraid of failing. They think it will be such a shameful thing if they get in the way and fail. Well, what if you succeed? This is a better question to ask, because it paints the picture of a beautiful reward and motivates you to get on.

If you read the stories of some of the greatest people who have put their footprints in the sand of time, you will find something to be common; many times they started out to pursue their dreams under the most inconvinincing situations, worse still is that many of them did not even know what the next day held for them.

In the text we read earlier, Abraham’s servant set out to search for a bride for his master’s son - Isaac. He had an idea of where he was going to get the bride, but he didn’t have everything clearly figured out. He proceeded on the journey and as he went along, God guided his steps to the right place and you can hear that even from his own testimony – “I being in the way…”

It is time for you to get in the way!

If you have a dream to touch the world in a way that no one else has, then you have got to get started today, right from where you are now, and with the resources you have now.

Don’t be too afraid to start out!

If you have started out before, and you failed or lost everything, then start out again. Even if you don’t know all the things to do correctly to succeed, at least you know a few pitfalls to avoid.

It was Kenneth E. Hagin who said if you don’t know for sure that God has called you, or what he has called you to do, just get on the field and start working for the Lord, He will meet you there and redirect you if He has something different for you to do, but at least you will have the opportunity to get some training, rather than just sitting down and folding your hands, waiting for a special call or endowment.

God is not so overly impressed, neither is He intimidated by the size of your dreams. Rather, He is impressed with what you are doing now with what you have. So, whatever is in your heart to do to bless your community or nation, whether it is ministry, business, politics, philanthropy or any other thing, start out from where you are and with what is in your hands today.

It is only as you pour out your oil from your small jar, that more oil will flow, and it will amaze you how many large jars will be filled from your small jar, just because you decided to get in the way.

Find Your Place and Stay There

Like a bird that wanders from its nest is a man who wanders from his place. Prov.27:8 (NIV) One of the greatest advantages you can have in life is to find your place early and stay there. The challenges of life come to us all, but you may just find it so overwhelming when you are not in your place, as compared to the person who has found their place. I am sure that you have come across one or two persons in life who excel and have an utter sense of fulfilment in what they do in life. It doesn’t have to be really big sometimes, but you can tell that they are in their place, where they should actually be. You may also have come across some persons whom you will consider clear misfits where they are, and in what they do. The latter set of people are most likely not to be prospering as they should, or I should say, they have potential to prosper more, if they find their place and stay there. The same is true about your life. Sometimes you need to take a step back and ask yourself if you ar...

Updated: Don’t Bind the Brook, Don’t Rebuke the Ravens - Simple Lesson in Obedience

Over the years I have come to understand the place of simple obedience to the instructions of God, and the huge difference it could make in one’s life. I have also come to see how easy believers can be in disobedience, yet be able to cover up with some form of spiritual activity, then in the end attempt to pass on the responsibility for their failures on God.   This can possibly account for one of the biggest reasons why there are believers who seem not to be making progress in life in spite of their seeming spirituality. The situation is even more compounded when older believers who should set the example for younger believers fall into this group. The implication is that there will be a generation of young believers who cannot seem to find the proper alignment between the Christian faith and being productive in life.   The story of the prophet Elijah in 1 Kings 17, clearly illustrates my point.  The Word of the Lord had come to the prophet to camp by the bro...

Two Things to Avoid to be Prosperous

He also that is slothful in his work is brother to him that is a great waster. Prov.18:9 (KJV) In my last piece, I talked about the importance of finding your place, and staying there to command God’s Blessing. I emphasized the importance of staying power in whatever God has called you to do or committed to your hands. In this piece, I will seek to drive the conversation further, talking about two wrong attitudes that will greatly hinder the Blessing of God from finding expression in your life. Our text says the slothful is brother to a great waster, this is a very dangerous company indeed, and always a disaster waiting to happen. These two characters can never prosper and attain God’s highest Blessing. You may be working hard and making mistakes, but you must keep at it because, the man who tries and make mistakes will command the Blessing far more than the man who is slothful. God hates laziness! Laziness can disguise in many ways; a person can be spiritually lazy, and that...
