The book Soul winning out where the sinners are, written by Tommy Lee Osborn, containing one hundred and forty pages in fourteen chapters is a classic on evangelism and soul winning. The book focuses on how laymen as being individual members of the body of Christ are to write the church’s last chapter by taking the good news of salvation for the world beyond the four walls of the church building. This book is coming from no other person but a man who along with his wife Daisy Osborn, who has since gone to be with the Lord, have spent over sixty years of their productive life in mass evangelism, preaching to mostly unreached millions in over 80 nations of the world.
Having read a few books myself on evangelism, such as Personal Evangelism Course by E.W Kenyon, which is more focused on how best to lead people to Christ and influence them to live as Christians, i would say T.L Osborn’s book is a great work on practical evangelism and soul winning. In this book, Osborn goes beyond the doctrinal and scriptural knowledge on the act of soul winning, into the practical realities of reaching out to sinners right where they are. He stresses on soul winning as being the primary calling of the church in terms of individual members of the body of Christ and also as a body of believers.
The most emphasized lesson in this book is that sinners are to be reached and won to Christ right where they are, either through mass or personal evangelism, rather than seeking to invite them or bring them into the four walls of the church, which isn’t bad idea but is not effective enough in reaching out to unsaved millions who will not enter a church building. The author stated that the church has become comfortable and is rarely organising outreaches that are intended to save the lost, but now focuses on how to nurture believers, which in itself is a good thing to do, but must not be at the expense of reaching out to sinners where they are.
The author further gives his personal testimony as an evangelist and soul winner, and his passion to reach the unreached even from his youthful days. He gives his personal reasons why he is a soul winner and encourages every other Christian to be a soul winner. This book provides various options of reaching out to the unreached, such as; distributing literatures, handing out tracts, giving to missions just to mention a few.
In concluding this review, I will like to bring to the forefront a statement made by the author about this book “Discover the secret, the pleasure, the exhilaration of sharing God’s love in a hurting world. Experience new self-esteem; winning others, you truly win Christ. Enriching people, your own life is enriched.”

Find Your Place and Stay There

Like a bird that wanders from its nest is a man who wanders from his place. Prov.27:8 (NIV) One of the greatest advantages you can have in life is to find your place early and stay there. The challenges of life come to us all, but you may just find it so overwhelming when you are not in your place, as compared to the person who has found their place. I am sure that you have come across one or two persons in life who excel and have an utter sense of fulfilment in what they do in life. It doesn’t have to be really big sometimes, but you can tell that they are in their place, where they should actually be. You may also have come across some persons whom you will consider clear misfits where they are, and in what they do. The latter set of people are most likely not to be prospering as they should, or I should say, they have potential to prosper more, if they find their place and stay there. The same is true about your life. Sometimes you need to take a step back and ask yourself if you ar...

Two Things to Avoid to be Prosperous

He also that is slothful in his work is brother to him that is a great waster. Prov.18:9 (KJV) In my last piece, I talked about the importance of finding your place, and staying there to command God’s Blessing. I emphasized the importance of staying power in whatever God has called you to do or committed to your hands. In this piece, I will seek to drive the conversation further, talking about two wrong attitudes that will greatly hinder the Blessing of God from finding expression in your life. Our text says the slothful is brother to a great waster, this is a very dangerous company indeed, and always a disaster waiting to happen. These two characters can never prosper and attain God’s highest Blessing. You may be working hard and making mistakes, but you must keep at it because, the man who tries and make mistakes will command the Blessing far more than the man who is slothful. God hates laziness! Laziness can disguise in many ways; a person can be spiritually lazy, and that...

Updated: Don’t Bind the Brook, Don’t Rebuke the Ravens - Simple Lesson in Obedience

Over the years I have come to understand the place of simple obedience to the instructions of God, and the huge difference it could make in one’s life. I have also come to see how easy believers can be in disobedience, yet be able to cover up with some form of spiritual activity, then in the end attempt to pass on the responsibility for their failures on God.   This can possibly account for one of the biggest reasons why there are believers who seem not to be making progress in life in spite of their seeming spirituality. The situation is even more compounded when older believers who should set the example for younger believers fall into this group. The implication is that there will be a generation of young believers who cannot seem to find the proper alignment between the Christian faith and being productive in life.   The story of the prophet Elijah in 1 Kings 17, clearly illustrates my point.  The Word of the Lord had come to the prophet to camp by the bro...
