Lord give me more Faith

There are probably millions of believers who are praying for more faith with all sincerity of heart and purpose as you may also have found yourself praying at one time or another. Somehow, you recognize that if you had more faith you could probably do more or better than you are doing now, and this is true. However, we must deeply examine if this prayer is right in itself and if truly God answers our prayer for more faith. Nowhere in the scriptures are we instructed as believers to pray for more faith, the scripture says faith comes by hearing (Rom. 10:17). The truth is that there are many believers who are not hearing at all, while some others who are hearing haven’t set out time to personally study the scriptures to see if what they are hearing is true or not, they just simply absorb everything. What you are hearing can either build or destroy your faith. Where the word of God conflicts directly with the word of a man, we simply uphold the word of God without any prejudice to the personality involved; scripture says let God be true and every man a lie.

Jesus himself established the fact that if you have faith the size of a mustard seed, you can move mountains, but at other times he queried people for their little faith. So it appears that on one hand Jesus was saying that faith the size of a mustard seed is all you need, while on the other hand He was saying you need to have a robust faith. The point is that while it is all right to start out with faith the size of a mustard seed you must endeavor to grow in your faith. So we admit from the words of Jesus that faith can grow or be increased. Again in Rom. 3:3, scripture talks about the “measure of faith”, measure speaks of quantity, something that can either be increased or decreased. Again, often times, the problem isn’t really a need for more faith, but a problem of understanding that you have faith, and understanding how to put the little faith you have to work for you.

Faith originates from a revelation of the word of God. As you study the word and meditate on it, faith is there. You may not even notice it, but after some time you will observe that something has changed, your faith has grown. Even for the unbeliever to become a believer, faith must be present as the word is preached to the unbeliever, who must also accept the word in faith to be saved. Hearing the word can take different forms such as reading and listening, the bottom line is that you are hearing and faith will rise in your heart. When you first recognize that you have faith, and you then begin to put it to work, your faith will get stronger, particularly as you move on to the higher things of God. But if you fail to acknowledge that you have faith and also neglect the development of what you have, you will lose it completely. The more you neglect the development of your faith, the weaker it gets and the easier it is for the devil to take advantage of you, then sooner than later, you will have absolutely no faith in your own faith and you will always be looking up to the faith of others to get results for you.

The faith cycle begins with the measure of faith that we all received, you need to understand that God is no respecter of persons, so he gives us same measure of faith to begin with. He will not give Mr. A a greater measure of faith, only to give Mr. B a smaller measure, there would be absolutely no basis for this. We have all received the measure of faith, but what you do with your measure is totally up to you. I am saying that even the faith giants that you know or have read about didn’t receive a greater measure of faith than you did, the difference lies in understanding how it works and putting in the necessary work to develop it. You may say oh, but 2Thess. 3:2 says all men have not faith, but that will be taking that portion of scripture out of context to make it say what it did not say. The apostle was clearly referring to unbelievers and that was why he addressed them as unreasonable and wicked men, he certainly wasn’t referring to believers. So we have all received the measure of faith, but while some understand how it works and have also developed it, others have done nothing about theirs.

As you work on your faith to develop it and put it to use consciously, your faith will keep getting stronger till you get to the realm of unconscious faith, where you now begin to exercise faith over situations and circumstances unconsciously with great  and outstanding results. You don’t grow in faith by praying for more faith, you may be honest in your prayers but you still wouldn’t get any results. The answer to more faith is in putting in effort to develop your faith by first understanding how faith works and then by hearing and practicing your faith. If you follow through with this process, in no time you will begin to command unusual results like the same people you have been looking up to.

Shalom.

Updated: Don’t Bind the Brook, Don’t Rebuke the Ravens - Simple Lesson in Obedience

Over the years I have come to understand the place of simple obedience to the instructions of God, and the huge difference it could make in one’s life. I have also come to see how easy believers can be in disobedience, yet be able to cover up with some form of spiritual activity, then in the end attempt to pass on the responsibility for their failures on God.   This can possibly account for one of the biggest reasons why there are believers who seem not to be making progress in life in spite of their seeming spirituality. The situation is even more compounded when older believers who should set the example for younger believers fall into this group. The implication is that there will be a generation of young believers who cannot seem to find the proper alignment between the Christian faith and being productive in life.   The story of the prophet Elijah in 1 Kings 17, clearly illustrates my point.  The Word of the Lord had come to the prophet to camp by the bro...

Blessed By Association - Updated

Abraham by God’s calling had become a blessed man walking in the blessing. God appeared to him, changed his name and gave him the covenant of circumcision. You would have thought that all this will happen to just Abraham and his family, but not so, the blessing as we see it (Gen 17: 12-14) was also for as many as were with Abraham at that time. They came into the lineage of blessing simply by association with the man Abraham, they were to be circumcised just like Abraham, and came under the same covenant blessing. These people who were associated with Abraham at that time, including his household servants, enjoyed the most of the covenant that God Almighty gave to him. It therefore goes to show that there are associations in life that will forever set you up for the blessing. That is why you must treasure the relationships that God brings into your life, and never take them for granted.  In one of the piece published on this blog,  Identity by association , it was emphasized t...

Flourishing in Hard Times

No doubt we are in very challenging times, there seems to be crisis everywhere, and most economies in the world are affected. Many Christians have become casualties of the the economic hardship that is raging across the world, and worst still is that many seem really helpless even in the face of the obvious help that God has promised His people.   This piece seeks to highlight a few important points that could be of significance in helping the believer to flourish in these hard times.   1.      Know that your sins are forgiven and enter His rest   And there was a famine in the land, beside the first famine that was in the days of Abraham. And Isaac went unto Abimelech king of the Philistines unto Gerar. Gen.26:1   The bible records that that there was a famine in the land and Isaac moved to Gerar. Gerar signifies a lodging place or a place of rest. Many believers have yet to come to that place of rest in Christ. They still live with a consc...
