Set Sail with God’s Light

Arise, my people! Let your light shine for all the nations to see! For the glory of the Lord is streaming from you. Isaiah 60:1 (TLB)

Many people think of doing great things with their lives, unfortunately, not everyone ever gets to achieve great feats. We know that there are different reasons that could be responsible for this failure, but I will not attempt to discuss those in this piece, rather I will try to focus on something I think you can do to be counted as one of those who achieved a great feat in life.

For so many people, the challenge is not that they have got no ideas at all, but they are too afraid to try anything. Success is partly a product of ambition, but more than that, you must set sail from shore if you don’t want to be a perpetual dreamer. When you stand at the shoreline of life and watch the big waves as they beat, you may discover that those big waves have a way of intimidating you never to launch out. But it will interest you to know that every person who has made something out of this life and done something great has had to make the decision to set sail at some point in their life, regardless of how big and intimidating the waves beat.

The reason many fail to set sail is that they are looking at those factors beyond their control and seeking for possible ways to control them, rather than focusing on the little things that are within reach. If you have a dream to touch the world in a way that no one else has, then you have got to start from where you are now and with what you have now, while trusting God for the elements of time and chance to turn in your favour.

Whatever is in your heart to do to bless your community or nation, whether it is ministry, business, politics, philanthropy or any other thing, put your fears aside and get started now. Start out from where you are and with what is in your hands, take your eyes off what you don’t have or the things outside of your control. It is better to be a failure that attempted something noble, than to be a coward who never dares anything.

The story of the four lepers in 2Kings chapter 7, provides a classic example of why you must always follow your heart and set out to accomplish the dreams laid in your heart, often times, that is where your redemption lies. Can you imagine how much of a failure they would have been if they never committed to setting out? Another good example is the widow in 2Kings chapter 4, she put her fears aside and began to do the unreasonable, of pouring oil from a small jar into large vessels. Many generations after, we still recount her story, a story of bravery and complete trust in God to take care of the unforeseen challenges as she dared to follow divine instructions.

You have given in enough to fear and all the “what ifs”, it is time to break camp and set sail. I can guarantee that there will be challenges and obstacles in your path in the proportion of the size of your dreams, but God has also made provision ahead, and you will only find out as you set out.

What better time is there to set out than now? A new year, a new month, a new day and a new beginning for you. Arise and let God’s light shine in and through you.

Welcome to your best year ever!

Stretch

Isa. 54:2 “Enlarge the place of your tent, And let them stretch out the curtains of your dwellings; Do not spare; Lengthen your cords, And strengthen your stakes. The concept of stretching is very important for anyone who desires to make any meaningful progress in life. God has so designed everything in a manner that makes it almost impossible to make progress without any stretch. Even the human body grows by this same concept. It has been revealed that for a muscle to grow, it must first undergo "micro-tears." When you lift a weight that is slightly too heavy, the muscle fiber stretches and tears. It is only in the repair of those tears that the muscle becomes larger and stronger than before. If there is no tension, there is no transformation. The "pain" of the stretch is actually the signal that growth is happening. So If the human body grows by stretching, it follows to say that to reach anything significant in this life, we must stretch. God will always require ...

BOOK REVIEW (SOUL WINNING BY T.L OSBORN)

T.L Osborn Soul Winning Out where the sinners are Laymen write the Church’s last chapter Copy right 1996 Osborn foundation Seventh Edition The book Soul winning out where the sinners are, written by Tommy Lee Osborn, containing one hundred and forty pages in fourteen chapters is a classic on evangelism and soul winning. The book focuses on how laymen as being individual members of the body of Christ are to write the church’s last chapter by taking the good news of salvation for the world beyond the four walls of the church building. This book is coming from no other person but a man who along with his wife Daisy Osborn, who has since gone to be with the Lord, have spent over sixty years of their productive life in mass evangelism, preaching to mostly unreached millions in over 80 nations of the world. Having read a few books myself on evangelism, such as Personal Evangelism Course by E.W Kenyon, which is more focused on how best to lead people to Christ and influence t...

Becoming a Person of Value - Part 2

In the first part of this series, I shared the first two steps to becoming a person of value: 1. Having the right perspective 2. Valuing people These are foundational principles for building true value. Today, I’ll share three additional steps that can help you on this journey. But remember—these steps only work when you internalize and practice them consistently. It’s not enough to know them; you must live them. 3. Value Knowledge and Learning The third step to becoming a person of value is to develop an insatiable hunger for knowledge. Be a lifelong learner, and to do that, you must remain humble. No matter how knowledgeable you are, there is always something to learn—even from those who may know less than you in other areas. As a Christian, growing in the knowledge of God is essential. It will strengthen your foundation in times of trials and storms. Keep pressing toward deeper understanding of Him (Philippians 3:13-14). The pursuit of God is the most noble quest of all. However...
