Two Cardinal Points of God’s Love

 


I will premise this short write-up on the very popular scripture - John 3:16

For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. (NKJV)

The idea is to take a look at God’s love from a very simple perspective, and take out two important actions that characterize the love of God. So, let’s take a quick look at both actions;

Giving

The first action that characterizes the love of God is that He gave. God was so loving of us that He gave His son Jesus to die a shameful death on the cross to redeem us back to Himself. When you think of love, this must be the ultimate price and sacrifice that anyone could possibly make. The scripture says “For He made Him who knew no sin to be sin for us, that we might become the righteousness of God in Him”.

Love compelled the Father to give His son’s life in exchange for yours, yet He does not force you to accept the gift of His son; what a love!

He makes it a freewill decision for you; you could choose to accept Him or not, but thank God you are in a good place if you have accepted Him.

Question – So is your Love, giving?

Forgiving

The second cardinal point of God’s love is forgiveness. God forgave us before we were ever accounted as sinners; doesn’t that beat anything? Why should God be so interested and invested in us that He would forgive us even before we ever wrong Him? 

The simple answer is Love! 

Are you like God?

Some say the only sin you can commit to make God not to forgive you is the sin of unforgiveness, but this is incomplete. In the story given (Matt.18:21-35) in the scripture to back this position, the master had already forgiven the servant before he met his fellow servant and refused to forgive his fellow. It was his lack of forgiveness that closed the door on him from enjoying the master’s forgiveness. God has already forgiven you, but if you harbour unforgiveness, you will shut yourself in from enjoying the provisions of God’s forgiveness to you.

Is your love resting on these two cardinal points?

Well, if it is not, go fix it with God’s love.

Blessed By Association - Updated

Abraham by God’s calling had become a blessed man walking in the blessing. God appeared to him, changed his name and gave him the covenant of circumcision. You would have thought that all this will happen to just Abraham and his family, but not so, the blessing as we see it (Gen 17: 12-14) was also for as many as were with Abraham at that time. They came into the lineage of blessing simply by association with the man Abraham, they were to be circumcised just like Abraham, and came under the same covenant blessing. Flourishing in Hard Times
