Two Things to Avoid to be Prosperous

He also that is slothful in his work is brother to him that is a great waster. Prov.18:9 (KJV)

In my last piece, I talked about the importance of finding your place, and staying there to command God’s Blessing. I emphasized the importance of staying power in whatever God has called you to do or committed to your hands.

In this piece, I will seek to drive the conversation further, talking about two wrong attitudes that will greatly hinder the Blessing of God from finding expression in your life. Our text says the slothful is brother to a great waster, this is a very dangerous company indeed, and always a disaster waiting to happen. These two characters can never prosper and attain God’s highest Blessing.

You may be working hard and making mistakes, but you must keep at it because, the man who tries and make mistakes will command the Blessing far more than the man who is slothful. God hates laziness!

Laziness can disguise in many ways; a person can be spiritually lazy, and that has severe consequences in itself, but sometimes laziness can disguise as being spiritual, in which case you never do anything, all in the name of waiting on God, when God Himself is actually waiting on you. You can wait all you want, if you will not step out, you will not see the power of God in manifestation. You cannot pray so hard and refuse to take any action steps, there will be absolutely nothing for God’s power to work on. You have prayed enough, now is time to step out in faith and try something.

In Gen.24:27, Abraham’s servant prayed to God for a wife for his master’s son, but he didn’t just sit there and wait. He stepped out, and took a long journey in search of the good wife, and hear what his testimony was.

“And he said, Blessed be the LORD God of my master Abraham, who hath not left destitute my master of his mercy and his truth: I being in the way, the LORD led me to the house of my master's brethren”

The key phrase I want you to note there is “I being in the way”. It is time to get on the way.

Laziness can also disguise as being “unlucky”, that is putting in effort without results, until you find out that it was effort applied in the wrong direction to begin with. As a believer who has taken your rightful place, you cannot be “unlucky”, but you can be mentally lazy. It means you are not giving much thoughts to what you do, and how you do it, the results will be woeful. It is time to wake up, rise and let Christ shine beautifully in and through you.

The second character that you cannot afford, is to be wasteful. Well, this will need no much explanation. If God were to bless a waster, He would simply be wasting His Blessing.

In John 6:12, Jesus fed the multitude and he didn’t just walk away after the miracle had been done and the people were fed. He commanded the fragments to be gathered. Not gathered to be thrown away, but to meet another day’s supply!

When they were filled, he said unto his disciples, Gather up the fragments that remain, that nothing be lost. John 6:12 (KJV)

You must preciously guard the Blessing of God to ensure that you are not wasting resources, this is a sure way to keep an unending flow in your life. If you once had so much, and now it seems you are down, this is a major area to check. Repent of your wastefulness, and ask God for His mercy and you will see the flow of resources again.
