On Power and Wisdom

 


 

But to those who are called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God and the wisdom of God. 1 Cor.1:24 (NKJV)

 

As christians, there are several things that we ought to give proper thoughts to if we must succeed in our walk with the Lord and in this life generally. This has informed the need to pen down this piece on wisdom and power.

 

As I reflected on this subject, and as I made my observations, I found it interesting that many believers have a far greater appreciation for the power of God than they have for the wisdom of God, and if you fall in that category, it may infact be the main reason why you are not making as much progress as you would have wanted to.

 

The power of God is not superior to the wisdom of God, but there are believers who despise the wisdom of God consciously or unconsciously, all they seek is power. Such response to the wisdom of God is a result of ignorance of the word of God, and the workings of the kingdom. I know the power of God is very important, and it is also very thrilling when you see it in demonstration – oh how beautiful it is to behold. But I am sure that you also know or have heard of several power moves that weren’t preserved because of the lack of wisdom. It took wisdom for the scriptures to be written and well documented, and this has provided the foundation upon which our faith is built.

 

If you have been taught so much about the power of God, with less emphasis on the wisdom of God, it naturally follows that you may have a far greater appreciation for the power of God than you have for the wisdom of God, and vice versa. But my focus in this piece is to make us elevate the wisdom of God to the same place as the power of God, because once we get that right, we are likely to live better and succeed as christians. As I alluded previously, many believers, particularly in our part of the world, already have some level of appreciation for the power of God, but we must now elevate our appreciation for the wisdom of God to that same level. I believe that when we do this we will experience far greater level of success than we currently know.

 

Our text provides some clarity here, if you have been called into the family of God, you need both the power and the wisdom of God to succeed. If you intend to go far in life and to prosper in all areas, you need a great sense of appreciation for the wisdom of God. History has shown us that the men with the greatest impact are men who carefully and wonderfully combined the power of God and the wisdom of God. If you have the power of God without the application of wisdom, you will eventually make a mockery of that power somewhere along the line, and there have been many who have done great damage to their lives and to the christian faith because of this.

 

As you seek the power of God, seek the wisdom of God in equal measure, because both must go together. Whether you are in ministry, business or a career, you will need a careful balance of both to make the most impact. Particularly when it comes to financial dealings, the wisdom of God take precidence. It takes the wisdom of God to make $2 out of the $1 that God has given you. Don’t put the sole responsibility on God to give you $1 everyday, that will be irresponsible. God expects you to multiply the $1 He has given you today, so they can have $2 to share with others tomorrow.

 

In the early church, the Apostles sought to appoint elders over the church, their focus was to find men that were not just filled with the Spirit, but also full of wisdom. Kenneth E. Hagin commented on this in one of his writings, saying that if the men selected as elders in the church were not full of wisdom, they could put the church affairs in a mess, and how often we have seen that today.

 

Don’t seek the power of God at the expense of His wisdom, if you must seek anything, seek both in equal measure, and you will live a successful and prosperous life.

Blessed By Association - Updated

Abraham by God’s calling had become a blessed man walking in the blessing. God appeared to him, changed his name and gave him the covenant of circumcision. You would have thought that all this will happen to just Abraham and his family, but not so, the blessing as we see it (Gen 17: 12-14) was also for as many as were with Abraham at that time.
