Success is often described as a journey rather than a destination. However, for the purpose of this piece, let us view success as a phenomenon that can be cultivated. God desires His people to be successful, and He has set laws in motion and placed abundant resources within our reach to help us achieve it. Yet, with all that God has provided, not everyone experiences success in the way they should. This is not due to any failure on God’s part, but on ours.
Are there things we can do to better attract success into our lives? Absolutely. There are many, and in this piece I will highlight just a few. This list is by no means exhaustive, but if you apply these principles, you can be assured that success will follow by the grace of God.
1. Trust God Absolutely
Proverbs 3:5 – “Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding.”
Trusting God completely is the primary key to attracting success as a believer. You may have heard stories of people who claimed to trust God but ended up disappointed, and this may cause you to question the value of trusting Him. Yet Scripture says, “Let God be true, and every man a liar.” God can be trusted! You must never allow someone else’s experience or perceived failure to define your own level of trust in Him.
You cannot afford to look to any individual or human system as your ultimate source. God may use people or systems as channels of help, but you must never shift your focus from God to those channels. I have personally found that the moment I take my eyes off God and begin to rely on a person or system, the very thing I am seeking becomes elusive. This discovery has made me more dependent on God.
Trusting God does not mean rejecting human assistance; it means not placing your faith in that assistance. People may offer help, and that is good, but keep your eyes fixed on God, not on them. Human tendency naturally gravitates toward what can be seen, which is why it’s easy to transfer our trust to visible sources. You must deliberately guard against this.
You may ask, “How do I begin to trust God now?” The answer is simple: begin to trust Him by deciding to trust Him. Make a quality decision with the help of the Spirit to depend fully on God, and stick with that decision. As you practice trust, it will grow stronger with time. Be rest assured, your true success depends on your willingness to trust Him completely.
2. Have a Humble Disposition
James 4:10 – “Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and he shall lift you up.”
Humility is the second key to attracting success. Biblical humility is not self-debasement, timidity, or a quiet personality. It is seeing yourself exactly the way God sees you and agreeing with what He says about you. It means you do not see yourself above others or below others, even when you have to serve them or put them first.
True humility before God attracts His lifting. There is no genuinely humble person in God’s sight who will not be elevated. One may appear humble before men, yet not be humble before God, and such humility does not draw divine success.
1 Peter 5:6 says, “Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time.” If your desire is exaltation, if you desire success, there is one sure path: humble yourself before God.
Jesus is the perfect example of humility. Scripture says He humbled Himself even to the point of death on the cross, and God exalted Him gloriously (Philippians 2:8–9). The path of humility may not appear glamourous and attractive today, in a world where many feel compelled to project themselves or present an image beyond their true self. But if you choose humility, your success is guaranteed.
