For many years, I have always wondered why some people find it difficult to be consistent in life and this lack of consistency is doing more damage to their lives than they perhaps even realize. Some others have come to realize the harm of inconsistency, but they just seem not to be able to get over it. Your consistency is a great determinant to how far you can go in life, and how much you will ever achieve. In this first part, I will focus on a key factor in being consistent and that will be what you truly believe. Over the years I have come to realize from my personal experience, and from my dealings with other people that what you know isn’t necessarily what you believe. There could be a gap between what you know and what you believe, and the larger the gap between these two, the more inconsistent your life is likely to be. I have watched several video documentaries on how pilots fly their airplane, and it is just always fascinating, seems like I could never get enough of it, perhaps because flying was one of the dreams I had as a younger man, which I have not yet had the opportunity to pursue. For all that I have learnt about pilots and airplanes, one thing that really stands out is that pilots are taught to trust more in their flight instruments on the airplane than in their senses when flying an airplane. It means that you will never find any well-trained pilot who will simply begin to maneuver or change the course of his airplane simply because he feels he is on a wrong course while his flying instruments still says he is on the right course. In fact, I have watched a few aircraft investigations that were caused by faulty instruments that probably misled the airplane pilots. It was Abraham Lincoln who said "If I had six hours to chop down a tree, I'd spend the first four hours sharpening the axe.” But we are living at a time when everyone seems to be bothered about how quickly they can cut their own tree without recourse to whether or not their cutting edge is sharp enough to get the job done. This speaks only but of the pressure to perform which we face daily. When I speak of the pressure to perform, I do not refer to work place pressure, but I speak of the pressure we face in our individual lives to produce results.
