Change your Perspective

In recent times, I am beginning to understand better that the things that happen to us in life, and how we choose to respond is a function of our perspective of God, and on the issues. It means that for you as a believer, your perspective of God determines how your life will eventually play out. If your perspective of God is not consistent with the word, then you will have varying expectations of God, like thinking that sometimes He may come through for you, and at other times He may not. Having the correct perspective means that you understand that the nature and character of God is consistent with the Word, and it cannot be otherwise. Taking a look at the story of the twelve spies that Moses sent out to spy out the land of Canaan, those were actually leaders of the people, but the men had different perspectives from each other. Numbers 13: 26-33 And they went and came to Moses, and to Aaron, and to all the congregation of the children of Israel, unto the wilderness of P...

Supernatural Intervention When Unlikely

Bow down thine ear to me; deliver me speedily: be thou my strong rock, for an house of defence to save me. Ps. 31:2 (KJV). Supernatural intervention is about a daily occurrence in the lives of God’s children. Many of these interventions are almost unnoticeable, while a few others may be. Now, there are various situations that you may find yourself that warrant supernatural intervention. In some of these situations, you really expect that the intervention will come, probably because you feel that God is obligated to intervene on your behalf. One of such instance as we see from scriptures is the story of Peter in Acts 12. Peter was imprisoned and the authorities intended to put him to death like they did to James. Peter was not put in prison because of something wrong that he did, but because of the gospel, so you would expect that God would intervene. Another case is that of Paul and Silas in Acts 16. They were also imprisoned because of the gospel, so it looks like God was ob...

Seeking Guidance III – Judging by the Word

Ps. 18:28 For thou wilt light my candle: the Lord my God will enlighten my darkness (KJV) Prov. 20:27 The spirit of man is the candle of the Lord, searching all the inward parts of the belly (KJV) This is the final part of this series on seeking guidance, and I will like to start by sharing an experience that my wife once had. She had been spending time in prayer on a particular day, and something dropped in her mind, it was not something good. Her initial confusion was that since it dropped in her mind while she was praying, then it probably was from God. When she narrated the experience to me, I immediately remembered the story of Kenneth E. Hagin on the bed of affliction as a young boy, believing God for his healing. The devil had come to whisper to him that he was going to die, and given him a scripture out of context to back it up. Thank God, for the sweet calm voice of the Holy Spirit that rose from deep within him to counter the devil’s thought with scriptures that aligned w...

Seeking Guidance II – Spectacular Guidance

Ps. 18:28 For thou wilt light my candle: the Lord my God will enlighten my darkness (KJV) Prov. 20:27 The spirit of man is the candle of the Lord, searching all the inward parts of the belly (KJV) We established already in the last piece that the primary way by which God leads His people is through the inward witness – God’s Spirit bearing witness with your spirit. Sometimes, it looks so normal and ordinary that you may be tempted to take it for granted. In addition, as Kenneth E. Hagin said, “unless you keep a tender conscience, spiritual things will be indistinct to you.” The sure path to keeping a tender conscience is to ensure to avoid violating your conscience. If you however keep violating your conscience, your conscience will be seared, and you will get to the point where it will no longer a safe guide. As I pointed out in the first part of this writing, there are more spectacular ways by which the Holy Spirit can choose to lead us. These include through the voice of t...

Seeking Guidance I - The Inward Witness

Ps. 18:28 For thou wilt light my candle: the Lord my God will enlighten my darkness (KJV) Prov. 20:27 The spirit of man is the candle of the Lord, searching all the inward parts of the belly (KJV)   People seek guidance because everyone likes to make the right decisions or I should say everyone like to make decisions with potential for most successful outcome. The fact that people try to seek guidance tells a lot about how man inherently desires to be led. This in it self isn’t bad, but the problem arises when we turn to the wrong places for guidance.   Man is a spirit that has a soul and lives in a body; with the spirit man makes contact with the spirit realm, with the soul man make contact with the soulish and intellectual realm, and with the body man makes contact with the physical realm. Bear in mind that because man is a spirit, the spirit of man seeks to receive guidance to give direction to the life of the individual.   Having this basic understanding about man, yo...

You shall be Witnesses

Acts. 1:8 But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth. (KJV)   Sometimes you may wonder why it appears like so many Christians are evangelizing, but not many people are being converted to the same degree, or you personally may have been evangelizing, and wondering why you aren’t getting people converted as you ought. Well, the answer is not far fetched, as we will explore in this piece.   Jesus before His departure had instructed His disciples to go and evangelize to all nations, but further down the line as revealed in our text, He said they should tarry to receive power through the infilling of the Holy Spirit, so that they can be His Witnesses even to the uttermost part of the earth. Now, Jesus did not just say that His disciples will simply evangelize to the nations, he categorically said they shall be Witnesses. ...

Dream Again

Gen. 37:9 Then Joseph had another dream, and he told his brothers about it. He said, “I had another dream. I saw the sun, the moon, and eleven stars bowing down to me.” (ERV) Usually, everyone grows up with a dream; big or small, and at certain points in our lives, we tend to be believe that our dreams are realizable. But sometime it so happens that as you grow up and interact with the world system, you may begin to see that your dreams may just stay at the level of dreams after all and not necessarily be realized. Well, it seems like that was the exact story of Joseph the son of Jacob as a young man with great dreams. He told his dream to his brothers who were older than him, and probably understood how the world works better than he did, but rather than encouraging Joseph, they mocked him. If they had only mocked h...

Why you must pray

Luke 18:1 Jesus told them a story showing that it was necessary for them to pray consistently and never quit (MSG) In this piece, I want to share with you a brief thought on why we as believers must pray. Some people see prayer as a burdensome requirement of religion, hence, there is no motivation for them to pray. Some others see prayer as one of the options to getting issues resolved, whether spiritual or physical. But while many can testify to the efficacy of prayer, there are also some who cannot boldly tell you in clear terms that God answers prayer. This is simply because of their personal experiences of failure in the place of prayer; for nothing can be more convincing to an individual than to have a personal experience of it. So, if most of your experiences show that your pr...

Don’t bind the brook, don’t rebuke the Ravens – A simple lesson in obedience

Over the years of my walking with God, I have come to understand the place of simple obedience to the instructions of God, and the huge difference it could make in one’s life. On the other hand, I have also come to see how some people, rather than taking responsibility for their life in line with God’s instructions to them, disobey those simple instructions, and then attempt to pass on their responsibilities on God through some form of spiritual activity. This is one of the main reasons why there are some people who seem not to be making progress in life in spite of their seeming spirituality. The sad part of this is that some of these people who fail to take responsibility are older Christians in the faith that younger ones should be looking up to, but due to their failure, many young people cannot seem to find the proper alignment between...

Provoking God’s Help II

God is our refuge and strength [mighty and impenetrable], A very present and well-proved help in trouble Ps. 46:1 (Amp) There is clearly no doubt that God wants to help His people and we must learn how best to provoke His help in our various areas of need. We have previously shared two vital steps to provoking the help of God in the last piece, and here in this piece, I will share the next two steps. Remember that the steps outlined must be taken in order, so if you are yet to read the first part , I will advise you to do so before continuing to step 3. Step 3. Declare boldly. So that we may boldly say, The Lord is my helper, and I will not fear what man shall do unto me Heb. 13: 6 (KJV) At this point, you have already crossed steps 1 & 2, you have settled in your heart by meditating in the word that God wants to help ...

Provoking God’s Help I

God is our refuge and strength [mighty and impenetrable], A very present and well-proved help in trouble Ps. 46:1 (Amp) In my last piece , I focused on the help of God and the various ways by which God can send you help. Then comes the big question that you are probably waiting to ask; Is there anything I can do to provoke God’s help? Certainly, there are steps you can take to provoke the help of God and these steps aren’t beyond your reach as long as you truly desire to experience His help. Bear in mind that God has made provision such that the most important things in this life basically cost nothing and are within the reach of everyone. So then let us explore some of the steps to provoking the help of God. Step 1. Be conscious that God wants to help you. God who made you has something to say to you;...
